Data Description

GOES-R Series ABI Products GRABIPRD (partially restricted L1b and L2+ Data Products) - The Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) is the primary instrument in the GOES-R Series for imaging Earth's weather, oceans, and environment. The ABI views the Earth with 16 different spectral bands compared to five on the previous generation GOES imagers. The ABI includes two visible channels, four near-infrared channels, and ten infrared channels, providing three times more spectral information, four times greater spatial resolution, and more than five times temporal coverage. This ABI data family includes the Level 1b Radiance data, Level 2 Cloud/Moisture Imagery, and several other Level 2 derived products. The archived products are distributed in the netCDF-4 file format with metadata attributes included. Please expand "Details - Metadata, Documentation" section below for more details. Individual product (Datatype) description, documentation, and possible bulk access options are available under the "Product Details" link.

Notes

3/5/2018 - The GOES-R Peer/Stakeholder Product Validation Review (PS-PVR) Panel has declared many of the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) L2+ products at Provisional Maturity. With this declaration, CLASS is given direction to release these products back to Beta Maturity. While the current provisional data are made available, the older data will take several additional days to be released. For complete details of the eventual availability dates for Beta and Provisional products please see https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-access/satellite-data/goes-r-series-satellites. In addition to the release dates information, there are links to Readmes containing valuable information on the quality and known issues of each product at different maturity stages.

12/26/2017 - Datatypes ABI L1b Radiances Data and ABI L2+ Cloud & Moisture Imagery Data are now publicly available from February 28, 2017 to the present. See Readme for details on data maturity levels and corresponding dates. Please keep in mind that some pre-operational data will have data issues.

For questions please check the FAQ, otherwise contact the CLASS Help Desk at class.help@noaa.gov.

Please note that CLASS does not support geographic subsetting for this group of datatypes. Using the spatial search tool will find files which include part or all of the area within the user defined area; however, the full extent of the original data will be delivered.
